Project Description
Physical and health conditions provide a comprehensive view on the morphology, function and physical capacity of an individual body.
Such data from the citizens of the whole nation can reflect not only the overall healthy condition of a specific population, but also the economic development, social progress, health policies and environmental management. China is a large country with a huge population. However, there is no widely accepted national physique and health parameters and standards in China. Especially in some remote areas and ethnic communities, the public health information are lacking. Because of the great differences in physical and health standards between the eastern and western, it is not proper that the physical and health reference data built on western people were used in Chinese clinical and scientific research work. Therefore, it is necessary to establish an authoritative, systematic, comprehensive and representative set of national physical and health parameters and standards at the national level. These will then synchronously reflect national physique and health conditions.
The database was built based on a serials of snapshot and related tracking survey on national physique and health conditions. So the data can profile Chinese overall health condition, which objectively reflect the nation’s growth and development. It also can help the scientists to observe the disease trends, to evaluate the population’s health at different social and economic levels, and to evaluate the migration and urbanization effects on the health. The data also can be used to assess the influence of environmental pollution and effect of related control measures. The data is the basic science data for China, which can provide great support to clinical research and is helpful to make healthy related policies.
The target users include government officials, life scientists, university and high-school teachers, epidemiologists and clinicians.
